The Key to Being Used by God
God wants to use your life for His glory. As a Spirit-filled believer, you carry the potential to become a vessel for God’s purposes. So what’s the key to being used by God?
God wants to use your life for His glory. As a Spirit-filled believer, you carry the potential to become a vessel for God’s purposes. So what’s the key to being used by God?
To answer that, I want to take a look at the story of Jesus miraculously feeding a multitude.
Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do Philip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!” (John 6:5-7)
So there was a need. By all natural standards, the situation seemed impossible to overcome. The crowd was too big, and the supply seemed inadequate. But then something became available.
Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?” “Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. (John 6:8-11)
A little boy offered to the Lord his food supply - five loaves of bread, two fish. Concerning the boy’s offering, Andrew asked a fair question: “But what good is that with this huge crowd?”
Jesus, seeming to ignore Andrew’s doubt-filled question, answered confidently, “Tell everyone to sit down..” Tell everyone to sit down? Jesus didn’t even address the doubt behind Andrew’s question. He simply responded with action, with demonstration.
Now the Bible tells us that that there were more than 5,000 people present - the men alone numbered 5,000. Let’s be conservative and assign only one child and one woman to each man. So at least 15,000 people were present and in need of food.
A big need; a seemingly small supply. But the need was met, and the crowd was fed.
The boy offered what he had to Jesus - his five loaves of bread and two fish. Here’s what Luke’s gospel records Jesus doing with the bread:
Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread and fish to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people. (Luke 9:16)
So what can we learn from this most remarkable story?
The boy’s meal was not enough to meet the need. The boy’s meal needed to be surrendered to Jesus before it could be distributed. Jesus broke the bread before He multiplied it. In the boy’s hands, the food was not enough.
In our hands, our lives are not enough to meet the needs of the world’s masses. But in the hands of Jesus, our nothing becomes everything. Brokenness precedes usefulness; surrender precedes the miraculous.
There is no limit to what God can do with a life surrendered to the Holy Spirit. Put your life in the hands of God. Surrender. Let Him break you, mold you, create anew. Tell Him, “God, if you can use nothing, here I am.”

How to Pray in Tongues: 4 Keys
I’m going to give you three simple, Biblical keys to speaking in tongues, but it’s important to know that this gift is not something that can necessarily be taught. All I can do is give you the Biblical truths that will help position you to receive, but only Jesus can baptize you with the fire of the Holy Spirit accompanied by the gift of speaking in tongues.
Perhaps you’ve been asking the Lord for the gift of speaking in tongues but have been frustrated with the gift not manifesting. The Word of God holds the key to your breakthrough in this area. What I am about to share with you, I have seen work for thousands of sincere believers who were looking for this gift to manifest in their lives.
Here are three keys to releasing the gift of tongues:
#1 Request
Yes, it really is that simple. You must ask God for the gift. And when you do ask, you don’t need to worry about receiving another spirit, because Jesus promised this:
“You fathers—if your children aske for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” (Luke 11:11-13, NLT)
#2 Realize
Once you’ve requested the gift of the Holy Spirit accompanied with the evidence of speaking in tongues, realize that you’ve received it. Don’t doubt it. Don’t debate it. Don’t question it. The gift is in you now, even if it hasn’t manifested yet.
“…how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
It’s that simple. I know that may be hard to believe sometimes, but that’s why you need to…
#3 Relax
No, I don’t mean relax in the New Age sense. I mean that you need to stop overthinking everything. I can tell you this: if you’re a sincere believer who is asking the Lord for this gift, then there is only one thing that is blocking the gift from manifesting through you. It all comes down to this: ego. It’s self.
While you’re praying for the gift to manifest, you’re likely thinking and asking things like, “Is this just me? What if I get a demon? What if I upset God because this isn’t for me? How do I know this is really God? Everyone is looking at me. I’ll probably look silly. This is weird.”
Stop cluttering your mind with questions, doubts, and insecurities. Are you going to look silly? Probably to some. But you’ll have to get over that if you want the fullness of what God has for you.
Make no mistake, this is the issue: self and ego. Your own overthinking is getting in the way. If it doesn’t work for you, if what I’m teaching you right now in this blog doesn’t work for you, and you’re a believer, this is why: it’s the overthinking and doubting. No matter how many times you try, it will always come back to that. So until you decide to stop allowing the overthinking to block the flow of the Spirit, you won’t receive. You might say, “Well, I’ve tried too many times and it never works for me.” But that’s what I’m trying to teach you. It hasn’t worked because you keep overthinking it. You must…
#4 Release
Just release the sound.
The Holy Spirit isn’t go to come up to you, physically grab your tongue, and begin moving it around. It’s not going to be something outside of your control. Paul the Apostle used all of 1 Corinthians 14 to teach you how to control the gift. Why would he instruct the Church to control the gift if the gift couldn’t be controlled? It’s up to you.
So what do you do now? Ask the Lord to give you the gift, realize that you can trust Him to give you the gift, relax and stop overthinking it; and then release the sounds. You may ask, “Is this just me?” And, yes, it will be - but only in part. The Holy Spirit will see your faith, and He will add His meaning to the sounds you surrender to Him.
Praying in tongues is like starting you car. You have to turn the key, but the engine will move the car. Just turn the key. Give Him sounds, and you’ll know by faith that He will take it from there.
Stop doubting. Stop analyzing. Release the sound of faith now. Receive your prayer language.

Who is the Holy Spirit?
What was it do you think that caused the martyrs to lay down their lives and say, “Take my blood; I want to preach the gospel - Jesus is Lord!” That’s the Holy Spirit Who sheds the love of God abroad in our hearts. The Holy Spirit is the One Who gives to us all of the promises of the Father, Who causes us to walk in the perfect will of God, not just day by day, but moment by moment.
The Holy Spirit is Jesus without boundaries or limitations. Using technology as an analogy, one could say that the Holy Spirit is Jesus on the cloud. The Holy Spirit is the One who gives us boldness to evangelize. Think about what He did with Peter in Acts chapter two. The same man who once denied Jesus became one who boldly proclaimed the gospel. And for every time he denied Jesus, a thousand people came to the Lord. The Holy Spirit changed him from a man who denied Jesus three times to a man who won 3,000 people to the way of salvation.
The Holy Spirit stirs faith within the soul, causing us to believe God for the miraculous in ways we would not have otherwise believed. The Holy Spirit is the One Who helps us to pray - because no man or woman, no matter how anointed they are, knows the way into the presence of God. Only the Holy Spirit knows the way into the presence.
In prayer, He guides us. In worship, He reveals Jesus and makes Him real, causing our hearts to be stirred and to burn with Holy fire to where we cannot contain that passion. That passion then overflows from us as adoration toward Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is the One Who helps us to walk in holiness. So to those who are bound and weighed down by the shame and the sickness that is sin, He offers freedom. He is the holiness Spirit, the one Who breaks the power and the chains of even those habits that have kept us bound for years. He breaks those addictions. He shatters those bondages. The Holy Spirit is the One Who delivers the captives from demonic oppression.
He gives us revelation of the Word. When we desire to see Jesus in the Word, the Holy Spirit causes the information from the Word to become revelation. And that revelation brings transformation. The Holy Spirit is the One Who goes with us everywhere, giving us the Words to speak when we don’t know what we should say. In those moment when we say, “Holy Spirit, help me. I don’t know how win this one to the Lord. I don’t know how to speak.” The Holy Spirit will then stir within you words that come straight from your Heavenly Father.
The Holy Spirit is the One Who opens the heart of the sinner. He causes them to go from being stubborn, stone-hearted individuals to being people who bow before Jesus as Lord. The Holy Spirit is the one who anoints us for ministry and appoints us into the call of God. He takes ordinary lives and makes them lives that transform the world. A single moment spent in the presence of the Holy Spirit can transform your life, but a life spent in the presence of the Holy Spirit can transform the nations.
The Holy Spirit is that something more, that deep stirring.

Holy Spirit: The Wind and the Whisper
The Holy Spirit is lively, colorful, energetic, and spontaneous. He’s the rushing wind that seemingly comes from nowhere. But He is also the whisper of the still, small voice. He is gentle, and He is fierce. He is the both the wind and the whisper.
The Holy Spirit is the most misunderstood Person I know. Unfortunately, within Christian culture, there exists an unrealistic perception of the Holy Spirit. When I mention the Holy Spirit, His presence, or His power, the response of some is to imagine chaotic church services, foolish actions, and loud, emotional outbursts. This sort of perception is what leads many believers to become hesitant and skeptical whenever mention is made of the Holy Spirit, the Spiritual gifts, praying in tongues, and so forth.
But the Holy Spirit does not make you senseless and silly - He makes you sharp. The Holy Spirit’s power is not found in chaos and noise - it’s found in silence and stillness. We do not step into His manifested presence through activity and hype, but through quiet and reverence.
Of course, there are moments when our agendas are disrupted by the Holy Spirit’s agenda. There are appropriate times to become loud and bold with our praise. Certainly, the Holy Spirit’s power can cause emotional responses. And the Holy Spirit does like to manifest His presence suddenly. This, of course, does not mean that there isn’t order to the Holy Spirit’s working; it just means that sometimes He has a different order in mind than we do.
The Holy Spirit is lively, colorful, energetic, and spontaneous. He’s the rushing wind that seemingly comes from nowhere. But He is also the whisper of the still, small voice. He is gentle, and He is fierce. He is the both the wind and the whisper.
We mustn’t stand inactive when He nudges us to move. We mustn’t move when He asks us to stand still.
In Acts chapter two, the Holy Spirit whirls about the atmosphere, causing what seems to be chaos:
Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. (Acts 2:2)
In the gospels, the Holy Spirit is described as a gentle dove.
and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.” (Luke 3:22)
There are two sides to the Holy Spirit - two sides that confront two kinds of believers.
Some believers seek only experience. They are desperate to feel the Holy Spirit. And they doubt His presence if they don’t.
Other believers are skeptical and doubt moves of the Holy Spirit. They pride themselves in their ability to remain unmoved by what moves others. They mock and criticize the power of the Holy Spirit without even realizing they’re mocking Him.
The Holy Spirit’s nature will always contradict the aspect of your nature that is least like Christ. Those who have an unhealthy desire to control everything are challenged by the Holy Spirit’s wind-like and mysterious nature. Those who lack discipline and order are confronted by the Holy Spirit’s gentle and intentional nature. He stirs the stagnate, and He calms the chaotic.

The Fire of Evangelism
A sign that you have experienced a true encounter with the Holy Spirit is a passion to win souls. After coming into contact with the fire of God, Moses was determined to see God’s people go free. Up until that time, he had spent decades in the mundane.
In the Old Testament, the enslavement of the Israelites is a prophetic picture of humanity in sin. The human race wallows under the oppressive darkness of sin. Sin strips all of its prisoners of dignity, divinity, and destiny. Deep within, the soul of every person cries out for freedom, for deliverance. And we serve a God who can hear those cries.
Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law when he came to encounter the Holy Spirit. One day Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock far into the wilderness and came to Sinai, the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up. “This is amazing,” Moses said to himself. “Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go see it.” When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” “Here I am!” Moses replied. “Do not come any closer,” the Lord warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground. I am the God of your father— the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” When Moses heard this, he covered his face because he was afraid to look at God. (Exodus 3:1-6, NLT)
Here we see the fire, the Holy Spirit’s presence, appear before Moses. A voice speaks from the fire. Then, God declares His ability to see and hear the suffering of His people:
Then the Lord told him, “I have certainly seen the oppression of My people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering” (Exodus 3:7, NLT)
Moses then discovers that God had chosen him to be used as the instrument of deliverance.
The fire of Heaven, the Holy Spirit, burns for the salvation of the oppressed. He can hear their cries.
There is no one on earth more passionate about the winning of the lost than the Holy Spirit. He desires to break the chains of sin from every soul. He is the Spirit of Evangelism.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be My witnesses, telling people about Me every- where—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8, NLT)
What happens when the Holy Spirit comes upon you? The same thing that happened to Moses when he encountered the fire of God. The same thing that happened to the early Church that spread from Jerusalem and to the ends of the earth. They became witnesses. They became vessels of deliverance.
A sign that you have experienced a true encounter with the Holy Spirit is a passion to win souls. After coming into contact with the fire of God, Moses was determined to see God’s people go free. Up until that time, he had spent decades in the mundane.
All it takes is one touch from the Lord, a single moment with the Holy Spirit, to set your heart ablaze for the lost. When you spend time with the Holy Spirit, His heart becomes your heart, His desires become your desires. You begin to see what He sees. You begin to hear what He hears.
Can you hear the cry of the lost? Can you hear the cry of the drug-addicted, longing to be free from self-hatred and bondage? Can you hear the cry of the broken families, searching for a reason to hope again? Can you hear the cry of the suicidal, the self-righteous, the fearful, the perverted, and the prideful? Can you hear the cry of a sin-bound people?
The Holy Spirit can. And when you come near to Him, your being also will be set aflame with a passionate love for the lost soul. You will burn with a holy dedication. You will become burdened with divine compassion. Your heart will ache with spiritual anguish. Everything in you will live to see just one more soul set free.
Like Moses, you’ve been appointed as a deliverer. You’ve been sent to a people. You’ve had contact with a fire. The Holy Spirit is the Fire of Evangelism.

YOUR MIRACLE IS CLOSER THAN YOU THINK
He opens springs of water in the desert, causes the Sun to stand still, sends fire from Heavenly places, and commands power over the grave. He’s the One Who spoke and brought galaxies into existence. His breath caused the waters of the Red Sea to stand like walls and the walls of Jericho to fall like water.
Kathryn Kuhlman used to say, “I believe in miracles, because I believe in God.” The Bible says this:
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. (Ephesians 3:20, NLT)
Whatever you can pray, God can perform - according to His will and Word. Nothing is impossible with God. You might be suffering with sickness, but nothing is impossible with God. You might be facing a financial hardship, but nothing is impossible with God. You might be believing for the salvation of your loved one, fighting to overcome a habitual sin, or contending for a miracle of some sort. Believer, I assure you of this: God is able.
Your impossible situation, your difficult circumstance, might intensify your anxiety and fear. Perhaps you struggle to find peace. Maybe you are discouraged by the weight of your burden. Whatever you face, just know this: you can trust the Lord. You can rest in Him, knowing that no matter the condition of your today, God has already prepared for you a better tomorrow. For the believer, no matter what it is, it ends in victory.
So let the storm stir. Let the chaos do what it will. For the God of miracles is your refuge. He is your hiding place. He will make a way where there seems to be no way.
I know it looks impossible now. I know that sometimes it’s easier to just quit. I also know that the enemy lies to you. The enemy uses your circumstances to tell you, “If it was going to happen, it would’ve happened by now.” The enemy uses your emotions to tell you, “You are being overlooked by God.” The enemy uses religious people to tell you, “God isn’t concerned with your health, wealth, or happiness. It’s a shame to even ask.”
Exchange the lies of the enemy for the faith-producing truth of the Word. Don’t quit. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Go after the promises of God, and trust Him with the results. You don’t know what the next 24 hours hold. At any moment, a miracle can happen, and then, suddenly, everything is different. God can make a way where there seems to be no way. Something good is going to happen to you.

10 Benefits of Fasting
Whatever strengthens my Spirit weakens my flesh. So if my spirit is strengthened through fasting and praying, then my carnal nature is weakened by the same. Therefore, every benefit that you can receive from a weakened flesh or from empowered prayer, you can receive from fasting. Though there are many more, here are 10 benefits of fasting:
There are different types of fasts in the Bible that were carried out for a variety of different purposes - and for differing lengths of time. But fasting, in the simplest definition of the word, is the discipline of abstaining from food for a given period of time in order to devote one’s self more to prayer and the Word of God.
For most believers, fasting is likely the most neglected of all spiritual practices, but this powerful discipline has the ability to increase the effectiveness of your prayer life. When the disciples encountered a demon that they could not expel from a boy, Jesus told them that certain demonic beings could only be removed through a combination of both prayer and fasting.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not drive it out?” 20 And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you. 21 “But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” (Matthew 17:19-21, NAS)
For every natural act of faith, there is a divine reaction. Whatever it is that occurs in the realm of the spirit when we fast and pray, it’s safe to say that there is something to be said of acting in faith out of obedience to God’s Word. Even if we don’t understand exactly how or why fasting intensifies the potency of our prayers, we know that it does. Like a sledge hammer chips away at a brick wall, so our prayers chip away at stubborn spiritual barriers. And fasting adds more strength to the strike.
Furthermore, fasting helps us to weaken our greatest enemy - the flesh.
The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. (Galatians 5:17, NLT)
1: Fasting can bring clarity to the voice of God. (Acts 13:2)
2: Fasting can help to properly establish a new ministry. (Acts 14:23)
3: Fasting can bring favor. (Esther 4:16)
4: Fasting can bring healing. (Psalm 35:13-14)
5: Fasting can prepare you for the call of God. (Matthew 4:1-4)
6: Fasting can prepare you for temptation. (Matthew 4:1-4)
7: Fasting can bring about freedom. (Isaiah 58:6)
8: Fasting can bring protection. (Ezra 8:21)
9: Fasting can increase Spiritual Authority. (Matthew 17:19-21, NAS)
10: Fasting can teach you dependance on God. (Matthew 4:3-4, NLT)
If you will respond with faith to the Word of God and implement fasting as a frequent discipline in your life, you will see spiritual growth, such as you never imagined possible. Begin to see the effectiveness of your prayers increase and the desires of the flesh weaken. Step into depths of the Spirit that you’ve never known. Take God at His Word. Watch what begins to happen in your life as you fast and pray.

7 Levels of Ministry Influence
The Holy Spirit loves us all equally, but He trusts us in proportion to our obedience. Every sincere believer wants to be trusted and used by the Lord. So what’s the first step? Being used by God is as simple as obeying God. Simply do what’s before you, and allow promotion to come from the Lord.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8, NLT)
You will receive power when the Spirit comes upon you. What’s the purpose of that power? The purpose of that power is to turn you into a witness, one who shares the gospel. And as you are faithful in sharing the gospel, God is the One Who brings about the results. You do the possible, and God will do the impossible. You preach the gospel, and God will save the lost.
Now, notice that the Bible says, “in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” The early Church spread the gospel first in the city of Jerusalem, then the regions of Judea and Samaria, and finally to the ends of the earth.
Their influence grew gradually. So I believe it also goes with us.
These are the seven levels of ministry influence:
Personal
Corporate
Regional
National
Global
Generational
Eternal
Personal influence first occurs in you, as the Holy Spirit works on your character and nature. He breaks the bondage of sin over your life and delivers you from demonic influence. That personal influence then begins to touch your loved ones. This is the initial stage of ministry impact.
Then the Spirit will raise you to become effective in a local body of believers, a local church, corporate influence. And, yes, a local church is Biblical. God creates systems - the solar system, your immune system, ecosystems, and so forth. Creation is filled with orderly systems that reflect the orderly nature of God. The church is no different. Yes, it’s organized, and, yes, that’s how God intended it. And it’s not possible to edify the body of Christ using your spiritual gifts outside of the context of the body of Christ, which is clearly described in the New Testament. And if you are faithful to serve in a local body of believers, God may raise you to have regional influence.
Regional influence is impact over a city or even a State or province. Likewise, national and global influence impact nations and the world.
Now, here I must stress that it’s important to think of ourselves soberly. Just because I preach in different States doesn’t mean I have national influence. Just because I have a list of countries on my preaching itinerary doesn’t mean I have national or global influence. National influence means that when I operate in my gift, nations shift. The same concept applies to global influence. Very few reach that level.
However, the level of your influence really is up to God. After all, it’s about His agenda, not our notoriety. So don’t concern yourself with how you’re raised. Just obey what God has spoken and leave promotion in His hands. How far you’ll go is none of your business. So don’t go after influence, go after obedience.
And as we obey, we all can share in the collective impact of generational and eternal consequence. Just by living a holy life that glorifies God, you become the preservation of your generation - and generations beyond. And by simply sharing the gospel, you’re not just impacting lives; you’re impacting eternities.

What Does the Holy Spirit Look Like?
Another point of mystery is the Holy Spirit’s appearance. The Bible gives us glimpses at the Father and the Son, but does the Bible mention anything about the Holy Spirit’s appearance? According to the Bible, what does the Holy Spirit look like?
What does the Holy Spirit Look Like?
As you explore the Word of God, you will find that there is more to the Person of the Holy Spirit than we could ever possibly imagine. He’s colorful, lively, magnetic, and wonderful - I mean that literally. He’s filled with wonder.
And one of the many things I love about the Holy Spirit is His mysterious nature. The mystery surrounding the Holy Spirit is partly due to the fact that He primarily points to Jesus. Glorifying the Son, the Spirit removes the attention from Himself.
For example, 2 Peter 1:21 tells us that the Scriptures were inspired by the Holy Spirit. But have you ever noticed that we are never given the name of the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit inspired the writers of the Word to give us names for the Father and the Son, but, true to His humble nature, the Holy Spirit does not give us His name. Yes, we have terms for Him. Yes, we have titles for Him. But we don’t see His name. His name is not “Holy Spirit” - the Bible calls Him “The Holy Spirit.” So we have His title, but not His name.
Another point of mystery is the Holy Spirit’s appearance. The Bible gives us glimpses at the Father and the Son, but does the Bible mention anything about the Holy Spirit’s appearance? According to the Bible, what does the Holy Spirit look like?
At the baptism of Jesus, the Holy Spirit took on the physical appearance of a Dove. Matthew 3:16, Mark 1:10, and John 1:32 all describe the Holy Spirit descending upon Jesus like a dove. This cannot just be a metaphor, since all accounts are describing a physical sight in the exact same manner. Whatever form the Holy Spirit took, that form reminded witnesses of a dove. In fact, Luke’s gospel puts a finer point on it:
Luke 3:22
and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.”
Looking now at the Old Testament, we see that Ezekiel the prophet had an encounter with a man of fire - fire being a symbol for the Holy Spirit.
Ezekiel 8:1-4, NASB
It came about in the sixth year, on the fifth day of the sixth month, as I was sitting in my house with the elders of Judah sitting before me, that the hand of the Lord God fell on me there. Then I looked, and behold, a likeness as the appearance of a man; from His loins and downward there was the appearance of fire, and from His loins and upward the appearance of brightness, like the appearance of glowing metal. He stretched out the form of a hand and caught me by a lock of my head; and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the seat of the idol of jealousy, which provokes to jealousy, was located. And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, like the appearance which I saw in the plain
Imagine that. I love that the scripture tells us that the fiery being stretched out the form of a hand. In other words, Ezekiel saw the shape of a hand - the substance being not of flesh, but of fire. And what does Ezekiel call this fiery Being Who grabbed him by the lock of his head? Look at verse 3:
Ezekiel 8:3
“He stretched out the form of a hand and caught me by a lock of my head; and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven...”
Ezekiel called this fiery being the “Spirit.” Ezekiel’s vision may very well have been of a physical appearance of the Holy Spirit Himself.

How to Receive the Holy Spirit
That’s a very interesting portion of Scripture. The believers mentioned had never even heard of the Holy Spirit. They had already believed the gospel. They were already born again. Yet they had never heard of the Holy Spirit. So how can this be?
How do you receive the Holy Spirit? The answer is that you receive the Holy Spirit by being born again. From the very moment you are saved, you are Spirit-filled.
Romans 8:9
You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
The Bible makes it perfectly clear that one cannot belong to God as His child unless that one has the Spirit of God. Salvation and the Spirit go hand-in-hand. If you are saved, you have the Spirit. If you have the Spirit, you are saved. The infilling of the Holy Spirit and born-again experience occur simultaneously.
So then what of this second experience? What does it mean for a believer to receive or be baptized with the Holy Spirit?
Acts 19:2
“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them. “No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
That’s a very interesting portion of Scripture. The believers mentioned had never even heard of the Holy Spirit. They had already believed the gospel. They were already born again. Yet they had never heard of the Holy Spirit. So how can this be?
How is it that the Holy Spirit can be received at salvation and then received again?
To understand this, you must understand that you are a spirit, who has a soul, that lives in a body.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.
Body. Soul. Spirit. At salvation, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in your spirit. At baptism, He flows from deep within your spirit to affect the outer aspects of your nature. Jesus Himself confirmed this truth.
John 7:38
“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.’”
At salvation, we receive Him. At baptism, we release Him. The baptism of the Spirit is not rain from Heaven, it’s a river from within. The baptism of the Spirit isn’t about you getting more of the Spirit; it’s about Him getting more of you.
So you receive the holy Spirit into your spirit through putting your faith in Jesus and being born again. It is then that you become one Spirit with Him. And you receive the Holy Spirit into the soul and body, into your daily life, into your every moment, through obedience and surrender.

Preach the Gospel
In these times, it’s tempting to throw up our hands, look to the Heavens, and say, “The evil is inevitable. There’s nothing we can do.” Yes, Jesus told us that in the last days perilous times would come, but He never said that in the last days the gospel would lose its power.
It’s easy to look at the state of the world - the moral, spiritual, and intellectual decline - and become discouraged. Everything seems to be getting darker. All of the systems of the world are becoming more anti-Christ. Many people are being given over to demonic deception - they’re losing their minds, their collective grip on reality.
In these times, it’s tempting to throw up our hands, look to the Heavens, and say, “The evil is inevitable. There’s nothing we can do.” Yes, Jesus told us that in the last days perilous times would come, but He never said that in the last days the gospel would lose its power.
We must rise and tell the world. We must declare the finished work of the cross, the cleansing power of the blood, and destructive power of sin. We must warn the wicked, and we must boldly call for repentance.
It’s a good thing to edify the body, but who will rise and win the lost? We have enough conferences. We have enough e-courses. We have enough church events and self-congratulatory pageantry. But what about the preaching of the cross? Whatever happened to the message of salvation?
Church, it’s time to get back to the simple message of salvation through Jesus Christ.
There are many problems in this world, but there is only one real solution. The answer is the same as it has always been: Jesus is the answer for the world today.
So we mustn’t get distracted by the many causes that call for us to rally. Feed the hungry, yes. But what good does it do to feed a man today who goes to Hell tomorrow? Feed the hungry. Care for the poor. Stand up for the weak. Rescue the abused. Do good. But while you’re doing good, remember that without the gospel message, the clear and simple truth, all of our efforts will be of temporary impact.
Want to make a real difference? Then don’t just change lives, change eternities.
God is looking for someone who will boldly call for repentance from sin, for someone who will declare that Jesus is the only way. The gospel message is simple: God is holy, man is sinful, Jesus alone is sufficient, salvation is free, and consequences are eternal. Jesus will give you His eternal life in exchange for your temporary one.
I know our message isn’t popular, but it’s powerful. I know our message isn’t trendy, but it’s truth. And, yes, our message is offensive to some, but it is the only message that truly saves. Our message is the most important message to have ever been declared.
In presenting the truth of the gospel, offending people is not our goal, but neither should it be our deterrent. I’d rather offend someone into Heaven than comfort them into Hell. People aren’t turned off to the gospel because of the truth within the gospel. That’s just an excuse. People are turned off to the gospel because they love darkness, rather than light.
Preacher, if people can continue to love your message while also still living in sin, it’s time to start preaching the gospel.
Believer, preach the truth the of gospel. Preach salvation. Preach Jesus. There is no other message, and there is so little time.
Preach the gospel to everyone.

The River of the Spirit
It’s time to stop hesitating. It’s time to say, as the Psalmist said, “As the deer panteth for the waters, so my soul longer after thee!” It’s time to stop sipping from the river; it’s time to jump into the river.
Wherever the river of the Holy Spirit flows, there is abundant life. It’s true that the Holy Spirit gives to us a divine energy that never weakens. It’s true that we have all the power we could ever need, already within us, because of the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers us unto holiness, inspires sincere worship, cultivates love, leads into the depths of prayer, reveals the Word of God, and so much more.
John 7:38
Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, “Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.”
Indeed, the Holy Spirit is that river of life.
If ever there is a moment when you feel tired, wearied by the demands and responsibilities of life, you can come to the river. At the river of the Spirit, life grows. At the river of the Spirit, there is refreshing for your soul. This river, this mighty flow of God’s unstoppable power, rushes through the chaos and clears away the spiritual hindrances of life. Shame, anger, guilt, sin, fear, depression, and confusion are washed away by the streams of the Spirit.
But here’s the reality: many believers are not experiencing the life-giving effects of the Holy Spirit’s power simply because they are afraid to jump into the river. Some say to the river, “Flow just far enough to refresh me but not enough to take me. Holy Spirit, move in my life enough to bless me but not enough to challenge me.”
Whether it be for fear of loss of control or a hesitation about total abandonment, some simply sit along the river banks. Unsure of where the river might take them, they choose to remain dry. They can see the river. They may even be somewhat refreshed by the mist that hovers about the atmosphere. They may even sip from the river now and then. But one cannot experience the flow of the river until he jumps in.
It’s time to stop hesitating. It’s time to say, as the Psalmist said, “As the deer panteth for the waters, so my soul longer after thee!” It’s time to stop sipping from the river; it’s time to jump into the river.

Persistent Prayer
More than it will change any one or any thing, persistent prayer will change the one who prayers persistently.
Before you even present your requests to God, He knows exactly what you need. But there is still something significant about persistence in prayer.
Matthew 7:7-8
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
What exactly is it about persistence that’s equated with faith? It’s not as though God is watching from the Heavens, psychologically torturing the one who prays. He gets no pleasure out of delaying just for the sake of delay.
Additionally, it’s not as if prayer is persuasion. God will not derail His will for the sake of our whims. Prayer is not about strong-arming or guilting God into a response. After all, who among us could force his will upon God? Who has strength to move His divine hand?
So persistence is not demanded of us because God takes pleasure in our misery, nor is persistence a way to manipulate God. Rather, persistence is a spiritual practice that prepares the one who uses it.
Persistent prayer does not make God willing to give; it makes us capable of receiving. God is already willing to give us every promise in His Word. It’s our ability to receive that is matured as we pray persistently.
Persistent prayer weakens the flesh. Persistent prayer turns me into one who can handle the answers to persistent prayer. Persistent prayer produces patience. Persistent prayer causes me to become capable of handling the responsibility of the blessings of God. Persistent prayer cultivates the character of Christ in me.
More than it will change any one or any thing, persistent prayer will change the one who prayers persistently.

Praying with Boldness
When teaching his disciples how to pray, Jesus began by saying this:
Matthew 6:9
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Notice that Jesus didn’t begin His prayer with a plea to be heard. He did not beg for God’s attention. He did not cry out to be received. He prayed with a confident knowing. Assured of His identity, Jesus prayed with a holy boldness.
The key to praying with boldness is knowing that God is your Father and that you are His child. We find our confidence when we can sincerely pray, “Our Father.”
When the believer is assured of his divine identity, he can pray unhindered by doubt and shame. Doubt and shame are the great destroyers of your prayer life. Doubt tells you that God can’t hear you; shame tells you that God won’t hear you.
And both doubt and shame can be overcome by knowing one simple yet powerful truth. That Truth is found in the book of Hebrews.
Hebrews 4:15-16
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Because of what Christ accomplished on the cross, because we have a High Priest representing us before the Father, we can approach the throne of God with confidence and boldness.
The disciple of Christ does not doubt God’s existence, but the disciple of Christ does, at times, doubt God’s ability to perform His Word. And it’s not that we imagine that God is powerless. Instead, we imagine that we ourselves are unable to receive. That’s the great hindrance of doubt. In the same way, shame causes us to question whether or not God will hear our prayers.
Shame and doubt go hand-in-hand. Shame and doubt energize one another, and they are rooted in the same lies.
“Your past isn’t forgiven.”
“God is unwilling to hear you.”
“You’ve made too many mistakes.”
“It’s too late for you.”
Shame and doubt can hinder your prayer life, yes. But there is a holy boldness within - a boldness that has the power to destroy the weakening bondages of shame and doubt.
When you begin to pray, start from the place of identity. Maintain a divine audacity. Know to Whom you belong. Know that you are accepted and forgiven. Cry out, “My Father!” Let the Holy Spirit persuade you. Let Him convince you that you belong to God.
Romans 8:15
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."
Trust the voice of the Holy Spirit. Ignore the voices of doubt and shame. When you pray with boldness, you’re not afraid to ask of God. When you pray while free from shame, your confidence in the Lord is renewed.
Imagine how much time you could save while praying if, instead of begging God to hear you, you simply believed that He already did. Imagine how boldly you could approach the throne if you knew the sin that causes you shame was wiped from God’s records. You’re already His. You belong to Him. Remember: we don’t pray to connect with God; we pray from connection with God. Go boldly before God.

The Crucified Life
A cross-less gospel is a Christ-less gospel. The gospel is not about self-improvement; it’s about self-abandonment. It’s not about our dreams; it’s about God’s will. We must stop trying to build what the Word of God has told us to crucify.
“Your dreams are about to come true."
“Your breakthrough is on the way.”
"The toughest times come just before the greatest blessings.”
“God is getting ready to catapult you into greatness.”
Statements like those find their power by pulling on a person’s deep longing to be successful, wealthy, put-together, respected, and otherwise well-positioned in life. In fact, the Word “breakthrough” has become a Christian code word that means “The day I never have any more struggles.” We have sermons that give you steps to a better you and keys to success in this area or that area. It seems that every message you hear is about how your dreams are just within arm’s reach. But the reason we have so much preaching on climbing mountains is because we don’t have the faith or power to move mountains. And we lack faith and power because we lack the preaching of the cross.
Sadly, many are promising a life without troubles, trials, sacrifice, or commitment. Honestly, that’s just contrary to what Jesus told us:
John 16:33
In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Sure, the blessings of God abound in the life of every believer. He prospers, provides for, protects, and loves His people. God does not despise the prayer request. God does not become angry with His child’s request for a blessing. But one thing we should all remember is this: God’s cause takes precedence over the believer’s comfort. So let me just be real with you - many are deceived by a false gospel that requires nothing of them.
Mark 8:34-35
34 Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 35 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.
Jesus spoke those challenging words just after prophesying His own death. His disciple Peter was resistant to the idea of Jesus giving His own life on the cross. The Lord rebuked Peter, saying, “Get away from me, Satan! You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”
Get away from me Satan? Those harsh words exposed the source of Peter’s resistance to the cross. Resistance to the cross is Satanic. Think of how the Devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness. Satan offered to Jesus a cross-less path to glory. Yet Jesus, filled with both the Word and the Spirit, overcame the temptation to deny the cross. He chose instead to deny Himself.
A cross-less gospel is a Christ-less gospel. The gospel is not about self-improvement; it’s about self-abandonment. It’s not about our dreams; it’s about God’s will. We must stop trying to build what the Word of God has told us to crucify.

10 Reasons Why You Should Give to the Gospel
David Diga Hernandez presents 10 reasons why you should support the spreading of the gospel through this ministry.
1. Win Souls
When you invest financially into this ministry, you’re helping us to spread the gospel message and win more souls. Your sacrifice could change someone’s eternity.
2. Give Efficiently
Because our ministry spreads the gospel through newer, more effective and more exciting forms of media, every dollar of your investment goes further. This ministry is excellent soil for sowing.
3. Impact Generations
By supporting this ministry, you are ensuring that the gospel message will thrive and spread throughout future generations - no matter how dark the world gets.
4. Preserve Uniqueness
This ministry is a uniquely anointed ministry. Through events and media, this ministry both builds the believer and wins the lost. This ministry has a rare balance of both the pure gospel and demonstrations of power.
5. Demonstrate Love
Money is a test of your heart. That’s why many become offended at requests for offerings. But when you give to the gospel, you are demonstrating your love for the Lord. (Matthew 6:21)
6. Grow Faith
By stepping out in giving by faith despite the season, you are putting fear in check. As you grow in your giving, you grow in your faith. Don’t consider the season; just step out in faith. (Ecclesiastes 11:4)
7. Store Treasures
By investing your finances into the gospel, you are storing up for yourself eternal treasure that can never be corrupted. (1 Timothy 6:19)
8. Please God
Faith pleases God, and giving sacrificially is an act of faith. (Hebrews 11:6)
9. Overcome Mammon
Many complain when Christian leaders raise finances for the gospel. But by choosing to obey the Lord in your giving, you overcome the spirit of mammon and destroy greed in your life. (Matthew 6:24)
10. Receive Blessings
Though you don’t give just to receive, the scripture does promise that God will meet the needs of the giver - and bless them with enough left over to share with others. (2 Corinthians 9:8)

Only Believe
Perhaps you too face a situation that cannot be overcome with human effort alone. Don’t worry; this is when Jesus steps in. You may have doubt, but He can help your doubt. You may be weary of having your hopes crushed. He won’t disappoint you. You can trust Him.
A man approached Jesus’ disciples. The man was distraught, scared. His son, who was possessed by a demonic spirit, was tormented. The father was desperate for his son’s deliverance. He explained to Jesus:
One of the men in the crowd spoke up and said, “Teacher, I brought my son so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit that won’t let him talk. And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast out the evil spirit, but they couldn’t do it.” (Mark 9:17-18, NLT)
Imagine how disappointed the man had become once he realized that the demon wasn’t going to obey the commands of the disciples. I speculate that the disciples were, in his mind, the very last hope of his son ever living a normal life.
He had likely, up until that point, visited numerous physicians, spiritualists, and so-called experts. However, his son remained bound by chains of darkness. He had been disappointed time and time again. With every failed attempt to make his son well, his faith diminished just a bit more.
He must have heard the stories about how the disciples were able to work miracles and cast out demons. Yet what little hope he could have mustered was suffocated under the weight of yet another disappointment. The disciples, the man learned, were not able to free his beloved son.
But that’s when Jesus approached him. When you read the narrative in the gospel of Mark, you’ll notice that the man did not approach Jesus - Jesus approached him.
Possibly still glowing with Heavenly glory from his transfiguration, Jesus asked about the boy’s suffering:
“How long has this been happening?” Jesus asked the boy’s father. He replied, “Since he was a little boy. The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.” “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” (Mark 9:21-23, NLT)
I love the Master’s straight-forward approach. With an almost indignant tone, Jesus asked, “What do you mean if I can?” I believe the emphasis was on the “if”. Jesus certainly knew His own identity. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”
All things are possible; Only believe.
The man had tried all that he knew to try. He had gone to every expert. He had tried every remedy. He had looked at every potential solution. But, when it came down to it, all he needed to do was believe. And I love his honest response.
The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24, NLT)
After the man’s candid prayer, the Lord delivered his son completely. The boy was freed from the demonic spirit that tormented him.
What do you do when you’ve done all there is to do? What can be attempted when all of your ideas have already failed? What do you do when you need a miracle?
It’s that place of frustration and waiting. Though beneficial to your character, it can be painful. Truly, a miracle is only needed when all other ways have proved to be ineffective. When you’ve come to the end of yourself - talent, intellect, resources, emotion, energy - that’s when the miracle can happen.
Like that father, perhaps you too face a situation that cannot be overcome with human effort alone. Don’t worry; this is when Jesus steps in. You may have doubt, but He can help your doubt. You may be weary of having your hopes crushed. He won’t disappoint you. You can trust Him.
Leave it to Him. When you’ve done what you can, rest and trust. Relax. Only believe. He’ll take it from here.

How to Speak with Power and Authority
You’ve heard it said, “We can speak things into existence.” However, perhaps it might be more helpful, more accurate even, to say, “We speak things into order.” If something contradicts the Word or will of God, we can speak it into order. We can command all things to bend to the will of God.
I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, 'May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. (Mark 11:23, NLT)
What incredible power the Lord has given to us. There is power in your words. When you, by faith, declare a thing, it is so. But from where does that power come? Are we able to simply will anything we desire into existence? Concerning what we speak in prayer, this is what the Scripture says:
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: (1 John 5:14, KJV)
As we should, we celebrate the reality of our ability to “ask anything”, but we mustn’t forget “according to his will.”
We have the tendency to stray into superstition. Indeed, many believers live under the bondage of superstition. Perhaps you have heard the threatening phrases: “Don’t speak that! There’s power in your words. Be careful what you say; you might speak death upon yourself.”
And while I am fully committed to speaking life over myself and those around me, I don’t live ruled by the paranoia of unintentional curses.
Is there power in our words? Yes. Can we declare things to be so? Certainly. Do our words affect us and our situations in profound ways? Absolutely. But you can thank God for the limitations that He has placed within the power of our Words.
When God speaks, He speaks with unquestionable, unlimited authority. When we speak, we have the authority “according to his will.” When God speaks, He creates. When we speak, we shape. And aren’t you glad that not everything you declare manifests as reality? God speaks as the Creator. You and I speak as influencers, shapers of the creation. We cannot will worlds into existence, but we can will worlds into alignment with God’s Word.
For example, a police officer cannot legally come to your house and rob you of your valuable possessions. If he attempted to even enter the premises, he would legally need a warrant. If for some unfortunate reason he decided to step outside of the law and rob you, he would legally need to return whatever was taken, even if he wore a badge and claimed authority while robbing you. You see, the police officer has been given the power to enforce the law, not his own will. The law limits his authority. He can only make demands, as far as the law allows.
In the same sense, we are given power in our words according to God’s will and Word. We can declare healing, deliverance, salvation, and blessing. Why? Because that’s God’s will. You cannot expect your words to have power if they contradict God’s Word or if they are born of your own will. We cannot simply will anything we desire into existence, because the power is not in human will. We can speak, but God must first will.
When we obey God, we position ourselves in a place of authority and our words become as certain as the will of God itself. Our authority comes from submission to God’s authority. When we submit to that authority, we align ourselves with the power of Heaven. The power in our words comes from our obedience to His Word. Therefore, speaking in faith does not obligate God, it positions us.
You’ve heard it said, “We can speak things into existence.” However, perhaps it might be more helpful, more accurate even, to say, “We speak things into order.” If something contradicts the Word or will of God, we can speak it into order. We can command all things to bend to the will of God.
The power of your words is directly proportional to the depth of your surrender.
