Daily Encounters With The Holy Spirit
Daily Encounters With the Holy Spirit Are Possible
There’s nothing stopping you from having daily encounters with the Holy Spirit. You can walk with the Holy Spirit every single day. Some might say that’s unrealistic. Others might doubt and say something like, “But I’ve tried to have encounters with God, and it never works,” or “God just ignores me.” And maybe that’s you. Maybe you’re one who feels frustrated by what feels like a great distance between you and the Lord.
Why You Feel Distant From the Holy Spirit
So let’s, for a moment, put aside any frustration or disappointment that may be there, and I want to share something with you that I believe will help. Remember this: For the believer, the only distance that can exist between you and the Holy Spirit is your unawareness of His presence. You see, the Holy Spirit abides with you. At the very moment that you put your faith in Jesus, you were born again, and the moment you were born again, you experienced divine union - oneness with the Precious Holy Spirit. “But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.” – 1 Corinthians 6:17 (NLT)
Encounters Flow From Awareness, Not Effort
So it’s not a matter of the Holy Spirit coming closer but of you becoming more aware. This is where simple faith comes in. So long as you’re frustrated or emotionally tense, there’s no room for faith. In fact, some Christians are so emotionally worked up about trying to have encounters with God that they get in their own way. How can you walk in child-like faith if you’re operating in fear, frustration, and doubt? So instead of trying to work your way into an encounter with God, or reason your way, or beg your way. Just rest in this life-changing reality: He already has you, and you already have Him. No work to be done. No spiritual quota to meet. Just oneness. Now, with that in mind, when you set your mind and heart on God, you don’t pray from a distance but rather from union.
Application
Try this: when you wake up in the morning, instead of saying “Holy Spirit, be with me,” say “Holy Spirit, thank you for being here with me.” Instead of saying, “God, please hear me,” say “God, thank you that you hear me.” Instead of asking for His presence, thank Him for His presence. That’s faith. And from that place of faith, daily encounters with the Holy Spirit become easy.
